Resilient Grieving Author | Top 20 TED Talk | Global Authority on Coping with Change and Loss
I’ve spent over 15 years helping people, teams and communities navigate life’s hardest moments. My work blends global research, lived experience, and insights from thousands of real life stories to offer tools that are practical, human, and really make a difference.
I’m not here to inspire—I’m here to equip. With clarity. With hope. And with tools you (and your teams) can use immediately.
Speaking & Events
I work with teams, organisations and communities ready to face the hard stuff—organisational change, burnout, disruption, uncertainty, grief and loss—and learn how to lead purposefully through whatever they’re facing, not avoid it.
My speaking and facilitation are research-informed and practical. Whether I’m delivering a keynote, hosting a brave panel conversation or a Q&A webinar, I create space for honesty, insight, and tools people can put to work straight away—in their lives, their teams, and their leadership practices.
Trusted by leading organisations around the world.
From global health to tech, education to emergency response—I help leaders and teams face change and grow through it.
Books, Writing & Publications
Resilient Grieving
Resilient Grieving was the book I wrote in response to the worst moment of my life. The book I needed but couldn’t find anywhere at the time.
When our 12-year-old daughter Abi died suddenly, I turned to the resilience science I’d spent years studying—and I realised much of what the world believes about grief is unhelpful, outdated, or incomplete.
This book is part story, part science, and all real. It’s helped people all over the world find their own way through loss—and reshape their lives after it. Its wide impact and popularity led to the release of a revised and expanded second edition, now available globally.
New book - Coming Soon!
This book was shaped by a different kind of heartbreak. Over the years, I’ve spoken with thousands of people facing life’s toughest moments—not just death, but all the other living losses that go unseen: the loss of identity, relationships, roles, health, safety, or certainty about the future. We grieve more than just death loss.
So, I created this new book to help make sense of those other common transitions. It was built on the questions asked in the dark—by people who didn’t know how to keep going, and were desperate for help. It combines powerful stories, cutting-edge research, and practical tools to help you find your way through unwanted change—with agency, understanding, and hope.
The Crossroads Blog
This blog is my way of keeping the conversation real—and going both ways. It’s where I respond to the questions, concerns and insights you’ve shared with me over the years, as well as the ones you’re still wrestling with today. I’m here to answer your questions.
I write these posts to reflect the reality that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to coping with adversity. No perfect plan. Just real stories, practical tools, and evidence-informed ideas to help you find what works for you.
So if there’s something you’re struggling with—or wondering about—The Crossroads Blog is the place to ask, head over there now and let’s figure it out together.
Resilience Researcher.
Grief educator.
Real-life practitioner.
Before our daughter Abi died in 2014, I was a researcher, immersed in the science of flourishing, and how people cope with stress, uncertainty, and change. I’d started applying that work in schools, organisations, and with emergency response teams—but mostly, I was working in theory.
When Abi and our friends died suddenly in a road accident, everything I knew about coping with unwanted change was tested in the most personal way. I turned to the research I’d spent years studying—not to ‘move on’, but to work out how to survive, and to give our family the best chance of staying connected and finding our way forward.
That experience reshaped my life and my work.
Today, I work with global health leaders, schools, and tech giants. I speak from boardrooms and beaches. But my message stays the same: tough times are part of life—and with the right tools, we can all find our way through.
I don’t just teach this—I live it.
These aren’t stock shots. They’re real moments from my life—on the beach with my dogs, laughing with friends, running, researching, raising a family. Ultimately, we’re all endeavouring to do the best we can with what we’ve got, and this is what it looks like for me. Coping with loss, challenges and
change isn’t theoretical. It’s lived daily.

Resilience requires self-compassion. When life blindsides us, it’s easy to blame ourselves or push through too hard. Cutting yourself some slack can be the bravest move.
A decade on from losing Abi, I share what I’ve learned about grief and growth - what’s helped, what hasn’t, and what might support you in finding your own path forward.
Social emotional contagion is real! The moods and mindsets of the people around us can rub off, without us even realising. Notice the impact others have on you.
